Duration: 07 Days/06 Nights

Grade: Easy

Explore orangutan borneo In prehistoric times, orangutans lived throughout Asia, roaming as far north as China. Most of the land was then covered with huge continuous rainforest areas and the orangutans could roam freely over large distances. Currently, orangutans are only found in rainforests on the islands of Borneo and little part of Sumatra, even though the fossils have been found in Java, Vietnam and China. They are the only surviving species in the genus Pongo and the subfamily Ponginae which also includes the extinct genera Gigantopithecus and Sivapithecus of Sumatera and Borneo. In the deep of Borneo Island, we can also found the remains of Prehistoric Rock Art on Caves. The rock art painting shows communication between the world of the living and the worlds of the spirits, and gives insight in to the cosmology of prehistoric hunters and gatherers. There is an exceptionally high number of ‘tattoo’ handprints, composing handprints, unique human figures and fascinating representations of prehistoric social life, dancing, hunting, and rituals. Moreover, the rock art provides a unique testimony to the interaction of hunter-gatherers with the landscape.
