Betung Kerihun & Danau Sentarum National Parks

Exploring two great national parks on the magnificent island of Borneo in one trip will give you an impressive experience to remember. On this trip, you will be captivated by fascinating nature including landscapes and wildlife as well as the exotic culture of the inhabitant. Betung Kerihun National Park is hilly and mountainous, with the highest peak of Mt. Kerihun (1,790 m ASL). The park largely consists of two eco regions, Borneo Montane Rainforests, which covers about 2/3 of the area, and Borneo lowland rainforest. In the lowland forest, the dominant emergent tree is dipterocarp species, which are replaced at higher altitude by oaks and chestnut trees. The fauna of the park is diverse, with 300 species of bird (25 endemic to Borneo), 162 fish species and at least 54 species of mammal. The park is home to the endangered Bornean orangutan and seven other primate species. Danau Sentarum National Park has about 120 species of fish. Among them are the Asian bony tongue, toman, betutu, jelawat, belida, ketutung, and the beautiful clown loach. Other animals like proboscis monkey, orangutan, crocodiles, clouded leopard, great argus pheasant, false gavial, and wooly-necked stork also inhabit this national park.

Day 01 ARRIVAL IN PONTIANAK

Meet at airport and directly transfer to hotel. In the afternoon, we can visit the monument of equator. Free at your own leisure. Pontianak is the capital of West Kalimantan, located precisely on the equator and lies on the delta of Kapuas River, the longest river in Indonesia.

Day 02 PONTIANAK – PUTUSSIBAU

Free at your own leisure till the proper time for transferring to airport for flight to Putussibau. Arrive at Putussibau and directly transfer to local hotel. In the afternoon, we can explore the town and local market nearby the hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 03 PUTUSSIBAU – BETUNG KERIHUN NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast at hotel, we will drive to the north to Mataso village crossing jungle and Dayak Iban villages with their longhouse. The road is relatively in good condition. Arrive in Mataso and wrapping our stuff with waterproof tarp and then cruising up the Embaloh river cross under the canopy while spotting wildlife such as monkeys, wild pigs, sambar deer, and birds on riverside. Afterwards, we will set our campsite on the riverside. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at bivouac/tent on riverside. (B,L,D)

Day 04 BETUNG KERIHUN NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, we will proceed to explore the Betung Kerihun National Park by trekking into the primary rainforest crossing rivers, hills and spotting wild animals that is occasionally hanging around the forest. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at bivouac/tent on riverside. (B,L,D)

Day 05 BETUNG KERIHUN NATIONAL PARK – DANAU SENTARUM NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, cruising downward the Embaloh River and directly transfer to Lanjak town by car then continue our trip by boat to Tekenang village on the area of Danau Sentarum National Park. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at the homestay. In late afternoon, we can climb the hill to view wonderful sunset of the lake from the highest point. (B,L,D)

Day 06 DANAU SENTARUM NATIONAL PARK – SINTANG

In the morning, we will cruising the lake to explore wildlife, wetland, and fishermen livelihood. Next, we will cruise the lake into Kapuas River to Semitau village to catch our car for driving to Sintang town and check in to local hotel. Lunch and dinner will be served en route and overnight at local hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 07 SINTANG – PONTIANAK

After breakfast, we will depart to Pontianak by public bus takes about 8 hours. Arrive in Pontianak and directly check in to hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 08 DEPARTURE

Breakfast at hotel and free at your own leisure till the proper time for transferring to airport for your flight to next destination. (B)
