borneo jungle river The Salikung Jungle River is located in Muara Uya Sub-district of Tabalong Regency, the Northernmost of South Kalimantan province. To reach the area, travelers need to drive to Binjai Village passing Tanjung town and then continued by motorized boat for about 90 minutes to reach Salikung Village, the gateway to this jungle river. This Borneo jungle river has its own charm with the natural canopy shaped from various vegetation of primary forest at the riverside. It is also fascinating for a wildlife exploration with great opportunity to spot group of proboscis monkeys, long tailed macaques, binturong, species of birds, monitor lizards, snakes, and other wildlife that hang around the riverside. The upper part of the river is shallower with large limestone wall that makes the boating is more challenging by crossing through the limestone.

Day 01 ARRIVAL IN PALANGKA RAYA – SUNGAI GOHONG

Meet at airport and directly transfer to Sungai Gohong Village for check in to the local hotel. We can explore the atmosphere and culture of Dayak Village nearby the hotel. Free at your own leisure. (L,D)

Day 02 SUNGAI GOHONG – ORANGUTAN ISLAND – BUNTOK

After breakfast, we will proceed to the jetty for catching our motorized canoe to reach the Orangutan Island while sightseeing the romantic river and rainforest around, just keep an eye out for monkeys and birds. The Orangutan Island is managed by Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) for orangutan rehabilitation before releasing to the wild. Afterwards, driving across beautiful landscape of peat swamp forest to reach Buntok town for staying overnight at local hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 03 BUNTOK – BLACK ORCHID – JUNGLE RIVER – SALIKUNG FOREST

Breakfast at local hotel and then proceed to Sanggu village to explore the rare black orchid, pitcher plants, and other vegetation. Afterwards, we will drive to Binjai village to catch the motorized boat for boating across the jungle river to reach Salikung forest. Just keep an eye out for the flora and fauna of the jungle such as; wild orchids, big trees, flowering plants, proboscis monkeys, black leaf monkeys, long tailed macaque, gibbons, monitor lizards, and species of birds. We will then setting our campsite on the riverside. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at the campsite. (B,L,D)

Day 04 SALIKUNG FOREST – JUNGLE RIVER – LOKSADO

After breakfast at the camp, we will be trekking to explore the atmosphere of the jungle with its fascinating flora and fauna. We will then proceed to the beautiful waterfall and swimming in the fresh water of the jungle. In the afternoon, we will cross downward the jungle river into Binjai village to catch our car for driving to Loksado for overnight at lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 05 BAMBOO RAFTING – SUNGAI RUTAS – BANJARMASIN

After breakfast, we will get the adventure trip of bamboo rafting across beautiful landscape of tropical rainforest along the Amandit riverside. We will then driving to Sungai Rutas village to get our boat crossing the romantic river to spot wildlife such as proboscis monkeys, long tailed macaque, silvery langurs, birds, monitor lizards, and other wild animals on the riverside as well as the daily activities of local people. Afterwards, proceed to Banjarmasin for staying overnight at hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 06 FLOATING MARKET – DEPARTURE

Early in the morning, we will leave to floating market for exploring the unique culture of Banjarese that trade commodities from boat to boat, then return to hotel crossing Banjarmasin River while sightseeing people activities at riverside. Breakfast at hotel and free at your own leisure till the proper time for transferring to airport for your flight to next destination. (B)
