Borneo Jungle River II

The Mighty Barito River is more than eight hundred kilometers long with a drainage basin of 100,000 square kilometers, and almost 5 kilometers wide at its mouth become the lifeblood for hundreds of thousands of people. It originates in the Muller Mountain Range which is called as the Heart of Borneo, from where it flows southward into the Java Sea. Its main affluent is the Martapura River and it passes through the city of Banjarmasin. Along its length is found a huge array of cultures, commerce, habitats and wildlife, as it flows through cities and jungles, around mines and fields. This mighty river crossing through the jungle, mountain, cliffs and valleys, old tribes with rich cultures, villages and cities, and every kind of plant and animals that Kalimantan has to offer, including the ten different primate species.

Day 01 ARRIVAL IN PALANGKA RAYA – SUNGAI GOHONG – ORANGUTAN ISLAND

Meet at airport and directly transfer to Sungai Gohong Village for check in to the local hotel. In the peaceful afternoon, we will proceed to the jetty for catching our motorized canoe to reach the Orangutan Island while sightseeing the romantic river and rainforest around, just keep an eye out for monkeys and birds. The Orangutan Island is managed by Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) for orangutan rehabilitation before releasing to the wild. Return to the hotel for overnight. We can explore the atmosphere and culture of Dayak Village nearby the hotel. (L,D)

Day 02 PALANGKA RAYA – BETUNG – BATILAP

After breakfast,  we will be driving across pristine lowland forest and peat swamp landscape to Betung Village, and then crossing the Barito River and Black Puning River to reach Batilap village for overnight at floating or stilt house of local people. (B,L,D)

Day 03 BATILAP – BLACK PUNING RIVER – BUNTOK TOWN

After breakfast at local house, we will be trekking into the jungle to explore wild orangutans and other wildlife such as birds, sun bears, gibbons, as well as various vegetation of Borneo. In the peaceful afternoon, we will cross further the Black Puning River while exploring the wildlife such as proboscis monkeys, long tail macaques, birds and others are usually showing up. Afterwards, proceed to Buntok town for check in to local hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 04 BUNTOK TOWN – BLACK ORCHID – NAGARA – LOKSADO

Breakfast at hotel and then proceed to Sanggu village to explore black orchid and other species. We will then driving to Nagara village to get our boat crossing the river to Nagara lake for observing water buffaloes swim to the stall and villagers’ unique activities, as well as the romantic sunset outlook. Afterwards, proceed to Loksado across the beautiful swampy and lowland landscape into the plateau of Meratus mountain. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at lodge in Loksado. Day 05 BAMBOO RAFTING – SUNGAI RUTAS – BANJARMASIN

After breakfast at lodge, we will do a soft trekking to Dayak village for exploring the longhouse, rainforest, and the waterfall nearby the village and then continue the trip by getting the adventure trip of bamboo rafting across beautiful landscape of tropical rainforest along the Amandit riverside meanwhile our coach will be waiting on the downstream for transferring to Sungai Rutas village across the fascinating swampy and lowland landscape. Arrive in the village and getting our boat to cruise the romantic river for spotting wildlife such as proboscis monkeys, long tailed macaque, silvery langurs, birds, monitor lizards, and other wild animals on the riverside as well as the daily activities of local people. Afterwards, driving to Banjarmasin for overnight at hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 06 FLOATING MARKET – DEPARTURE

Early in the morning, we will leave to floating market for exploring the unique culture of Banjarese that trade commodities from boat to boat, then return to hotel crossing Banjarmasin River while sightseeing people activities at riverside. Breakfast at hotel and free at your own leisure till the proper time for transferring to airport for your flight to next destination. (B)
