Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park

The Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park is a conservation area located in the heart of Borneo. The area has an important role in the hydrological function as a catchment area for Melawi Watershed in West Kalimantan and Regional Katingan River in Central Kalimantan. Forest area of Bukit Baka-Bukit Raya is representative of tropical rainforest ecosystem that dominates peaks of Schwaner mountain range. There are about 817 recorded species of plants belonging to 139 families including Dipterocarpaceae, Myrtaceae, Sapotaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Lauraceae, and Ericadeae. There are also medicinal plants, orchid forest, and the Raflesia which is the largest parasitic plants that also grow in Mount Kinabalu of Malaysia. The national park protects the habitat of clouded leopards, orangutans, sun bears, maroon leaf monkeys, slow loris, sambar deer, and flying squirrels. Bird species of the national park is including the black hornbill, helmeted hornbill, little cuckoo-dove, common emerald dove, Bornean peacock-pheasant, and other exotic bird species.

Day 01 ARRIVAL IN PALANGKA RAYA – TUMBANG HABANGOI

Arrive in Palangka Raya airport with morning flight and directly driving across the peat swamp forest into mountainous landscape to reach Tumbang Habangoi Village. Arrive at the village and then check in to a local house. In the afternoon, we can explore the daily life of local people and the fresh atmosphere of the village. (L,D)

Day 02 TUMBANG HABANGOI – SUNGAI TRONGOI – SUNGAI DAHIYE

After breakfast at local house, we will join the ritual ceremony led by the chief as the requirement before entering the sacred forest on our trekking trails. After the ceremony, we will be escorted to Ujung Blok by motorcycle and then crossing the Trongoi River to start our trekking to reach Sungai Dahiye on 200 ASL. Sungai Dahiye camp is the first and best shelter along the trip due to the wide flat ground and very near to the fresh and clean river. At night, we will feel the serenity of the river flow crossing through the rocks. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at the camp. (B,L,D)

Day 03 SUNGAI DAHIYE – TOHOTUNG

Breakfast at the campsite and then trekking up and down the hills and crossing rivers and cascades to reach the Tohotung Camp on around 760 ASL. We will cross river several times before reaching the camp, please be sure that your stuff on the bag is well wrapped with waterproof sack. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at the camp. (B,L,D)

Day 04 TOHOTUNG – BITAH SAMBA

After breakfast and packing up our stuff, we will continue trekking up the steep trails to reach the Bitah Samba camp on 1760 ASL, this is our last shelter before reaching the summit in the next day. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and staying overnight at the campsite. (B,L,D)

Day 05 BITAH SAMBA– BUKIT RAYA PEAK – BITAH SAMBA

After breakfast and sorting the necessary stuff to carry for heading to the summit, we will then slowly hike up the steep trails through the mossy forest to reach the peak of Bukit Raya on 2278 ASL, the highest ground in Borneo of Indonesia. We can view the lush rainforest from the peak when the weather is good. Afterwards, we will be trekking back to the camp for overnight. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at the campsite. (B,L,D)

Day 06 BITAH SAMBA – TUMBANG TOSAH

Breakfast at the campsite and then trekking down the jungle and hill to reach the Tumbang Tosah camp. The trekking is never boring as the jungle vegetation is various. If we are lucky, we will meet the group of gibbons jumping from a tree to another tree. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at the campsite. (B,L,D)

Day 07 TUMBANG TOSAH – SUNGAI DAHIYE

After breakfast and packing up our stuff, we will be trekking up and down the hills and crossing rivers and cascades to reach Sungai Dahiye camp. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at the campsite. (B,L,D)

Day 08 SUNGAI DAHIYEI – UJUNG BLOK – TUMBANG HABANGOI

Breakfast at the campsite and then trekking down to Ujung Blok, we will probably hear or seeing gibbons jump on trees and various beautiful plants along this trails. Arrive in Ujung Blok and then getting the motorcycle to reach the village for staying overnight once again at local house. (B,L,D)

Day 09 TUMBANG HABANGOI – ORANGUTAN ISLAND – PALANGKA RAYA

After breakfast at the local house, we will say goodbye and thanks to the host and villagers for their hospitality during our visit. We will then driving to Tangkiling port to catch the motorized canoe to reach Orangutan Island while sightseeing the beautiful natural black river and rainforest around, just keep an eye out for monkeys and birds. Afterwards, driving back to Palangka Raya for check in to the hotel. Lunch and dinner will be served at local restaurants en route. (B,L,D)

Day 10 PALANGKA RAYA – DEPARTURE

Breakfast at the hotel and free at your own leisure till the proper time for transferring to airport to catch your afternoon flight to next destination. (B)
