This Indonesian part covers some 580.000 km2 (225.000 sq mi), the vast area is home to only 12 million people, so most of the provinces, especially the interior is very sparsely populated, and the vast rain forests here is some of the most bio-diverse areas in the world. The Kalimantan rainforest is 130 million years old, making it one of the oldest rainforests in the world and 70 million years older than the Amazon rainforest. Borneo or Kalimantan is very rich in biodiversity compared to many other areas. There are about 15,000 species of flowering plants with 3,000 species of trees, 221 species of mammals and 420 species of birds. Subject to mass deforestation, the remaining Borneo rainforest is one of the only remaining natural habitat for the endangered Bornean Orangutan. The island is also an important refugee for many endemic forest species, as the Asian Elephant, the Sumatran Rhinoceros, the Bornean Clouded Leopard, and the Fruit Bat.

Day 01 ARRIVAL IN PONTIANAK – RINDU ALAM HILL – SINGKAWANG

Meet at airport and directly driving to Siantan village to visit the equator monument. Next, proceed to Rindu Alam hill for driving into the peak to view the beach, islands, and rainforest from above as well as the romantic sunset outlook. Afterwards, driving to Singkawang town for check in to the hotel and exploring the city which is known as the China town of Kalimantan. (L,D)

Day 02 SINGKAWANG – GUNUNG POTENG – PAHUMAN

Breakfast at hotel, and then driving to Gunung Poteng for trekking into the primary forest with hope to see the famous rafflessia flowers. We will then back to the car for driving across rainforest and mountainous landscape to reach Pahuman village for overnight at local hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 03 PAHUMAN – SAHAM VILLAGE – KAPUAS BRIDGE – BALAI BERKUAK

After breakfast, we will drive to Saham village of which dozens of family stay in a length of 180 meters and 35 gates longhouse. Afterwards, driving across the bridge of mighty Kapuas River to reach Balai Berkuak village for check in to local hotel. The Kapuas River is the longest river in Indonesia, originates in the Müller mountain range at the center of the island and flows west into the South China Sea. (B,L,D)

Day 04 BALAI BERKUAK – BUKIT KURI – RIAM TINGGI

Breakfast at local hotel and then driving to Sungai Laur to explore the beautiful rock hill named Bukit Kuri. We will then drive to Riam Tinggi village crossing beautiful landscape and some Dayak villages with their longhouses. Arrive at the village and welcomed by the Dayak Tumon people with ceremony and hospitality. Proceed to the homestay for check in. After dinner, we will have villagers ringing their gong to play the music instrument and gathering for the Hornbill Dancing Party. Return to our homestay for overnight. (B,L,D)

Day 05 RIAM TINGGI – KUMAI PORT – TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, we will explore the village and forest around to observe and get involved the daily activities of the Dayak Tumon people such as longhouse, cemetery, coffin, traditional rice milling, blow pipe gun shooting, cooking class, etc. Afterwards, driving to Kumai village for boarding the houseboat to Tanjung Puting National Park. The houseboat is a traditional wooden river with roof forms the upper deck where you can view the rainforest as it glides by. The boat crew including the boatman, cook and expert guide. In the afternoon, we will slowly explore the romantic river by the houseboat while observing the primates along the riverside. In the peaceful evening, we can do night trekking to explore wildlife, such as; tarantula, sleeping birds, frogs, mousedeers, insects, etc. Staying overnight and dining at the houseboat, with facilities; mattress, pillow, fine meals, bottled “mineral” water, mosquito net, kitchen, and simple toilet available on boat besides the familiar helpful guides and boatmen. Day 06 TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK

Get morning river safari by boat to observe river ecology and wildlife along the riverside. We will stop at Pondok Tangguy Feeding Station to watch rangers feed orangutans. We will then cruise upward the creek into Camp Leakey where older orangutans are reintroduced into rainforest. At this station, we will explore the story of first orangutan project in the world, we will then trekking to the feeding station to see rehabilitated orangutans are given additional foods. Enjoy the natural river view on the way back. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and staying overnight at houseboat. (B,L,D)

Day 07 TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK – KUMAI PORT – SAMPIT

After breakfast, we will get the morning safari to explore wildlife on riverside. Afterwards, proceed to Kumai village to catch the car for driving to Sampit town for check in to a hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 08 SAMPIT – ORANGUTAN ISLAND – PALANGKA RAYA

After breakfast, we will drive to the jetty to catch the motorized canoe crossing the river into the Orangutan Island while sightseeing the beautiful natural black river and rainforest around, just keep an eye out for monkeys and birds. Orangutan Islands are managed by Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation for orangutan rehabilitation before released into the wild. Afterwards, proceed to Palangka Raya for check in to hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 09 PALANGKA RAYA – BANJARMASIN

Breakfast at hotel and then driving to Banjarmasin crossing peat swamp forest landscape. Arrive in Banjarmasin and directly check in to the hotel. In the peaceful afternoon, we can have the canal tours by motorized canoe to explore the daily life of Banjarese people at the riverside. Return to the hotel to stay overnight. (B,L,D)

Day 10 FLOATING MARKET – TRADITIONAL DIAMOND DIGGING – LOKSADO

Early in the morning, we will leave to floating market to explore the unique culture of Banjarese that trade commodities from boat to boat, then return to hotel crossing Banjarmasin River while sightseeing people activities at riverside. Breakfast at hotel and then driving to Cempaka vilage to explore people dig hole and take the material out to find rough diamond in a traditional diamond digging. Afterwards, proceed to Loksado crossing villages, cities, rainforest and mountainous landscape. Arrive in Loksado and directly check in to the lodge nearby the river. (B,L,D)

Day 11 JUNGLE TREK

Breakfast at lodge and then proceed to explore jungle and Dayak land crossing primary and secondary rainforest, hills, waterfall, hanging and suspended bamboo bridges, villager farmlands, rivers and cascades, longhouses, cinnamon and rubber trees. In the afternoon, we will back to the lodge through other trail with different beauties of nature. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 12 BAMBOO RAFTING – LIANG BANGKAI CAVE – BATU LICIN

After breakfast, we will get adventure trip of bamboo rafting across beautiful landscape of tropical rainforest along the Amandit riverside meanwhile our coach will be waiting on the downstream for driving to Mantewe Village to visit the Liang Bangkai Cave for exploring the natural rock formation and the Pre-historic trace. Afterwards, continue driving to Batu Licin to stay overnight at the local hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 13 BATU LICIN – CANTUNG – PENAJAM

After breakfast at hotel, we will then driving to Cantung Village crossing beautiful Karst topography, jungle, and mountainous landscape. Afterwards, continue driving to Penajam to stay overnight at the local hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 14 PENAJAM – BUKIT BANGKIRAI – LOA JANAN – MAHAKAM RIVER

Breakfast at hotel and then driving to Bukit Bangkirai to observe Borneo tropical rainforest by soft jungle trekking and climbing the canopy bridge to view the forest from above. Afterwards, proceed to Loa Janan for boarding the houseboat to start the exciting adventure of Mahakam River. Lunch, dinner and overnight at houseboat. (B,L,D)

Day 15 MUARA MUNTAI – MANCONG VILLAGE – MAHAKAM RIVER

Arrive at Muara Muntai and sightseeing villagers daily activities from the long wooden bridge which is made of iron wood. Next, proceed to Mancong by motorized canoe crossing the Jempang Lake of which we will have the opportunity to view plenty of water bird species and fishermen floating houses as well as the romantic Ohong River where proboscis monkeys, monitor lizards and other wild animals are hanging around at riverside. In Mancong, we will explore an exotic longhouse and Benuaq Dayak daily life and watching colorful dress dancers that welcome you with an impressive attraction in front of their longhouse. Afterwards, return to houseboat for cruising downward the Mahakam River. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at houseboat. (B,L,D)

Day 16 MAHAKAM RIVER – KABO VILLAGE – KUTAI NATIONAL PARK

Breakfast at the houseboat and then driving to Kabo village for crossing up the river into Prevab camp of Kutai National Park and then trekking to the jungle to spot wild orangutans and other wild animals. In the peaceful evening, we will have a night trekking for observing nocturnal animals such as tarantula, insects, birds, and others. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and staying overnight at the jungle guesthouse. (B,L,D)

Day 17 KUTAI NATIONAL PARK – DELTA SANGATTA – MUARA WAHAU

In the morning, we will be trekking in different trail of the jungle to spot orangutans, monkeys, birds, insects, etc. We will then crossing downward the river into Delta Sangatta to spot estuarine crocodile, proboscis monkeys, long tailed macaque, monitor lizards, and other wild animals that hang around the riverside. Afterwards, we will be driving to Muara Wahau for check in to a local hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 18 MUARA WAHAU – MIAU BARU – MERABU VILLAGE

After breakfast, we will be driving to Miau Baru Village to explore the Kayan Dayak settlement such as longhouse, totem pole, carving, etc. We will then continue driving across rainforest, palm oil plantation, and mountainous landscape to reach Merabu village. We can make stops to explore some interesting spots on the road. In the afternoon, we can cross downward the jungle river to explore the rainforest and wildlife on the riverside such as proboscis monkeys, gibbons, species of birds such as hornbills, kingfishers, pigeons, darters, etc. Lunch, dinner, and staying overnight at the homestay of the village. Day 19 MERABU VILLAGE – BELOYOT CAVE – NYADENG LAKE

After breakfast, we will trek through rainforest for about 2 hours to visit the ancient cave of prehistoric rock art that can be seen from the exotic handprints and paintings. During our trek, we may have opportunity to spot or hearing the sounds of hornbills, gibbons, macaques, insects, etc. Next, proceed to the village to catch our boat to cross the Lesan River to Nyadeng jetty to start our trekking into the beautiful clearwater lake for swiming with fish and then setting our campsite on the lakeside. Lunch will be served on homestay, dinner and staying overnight at the camp on the lakeside. (B,L,D)

Day 20 NYADENG LAKE – KETEPU HILL – MERABU VILLAGE – BERAU

Early morning, we will trek up the Ketepu hill into the peak and watching the fantastic view of the misty Sangkulirang karst range and rainforest from above. We will have opportunity to spot magnificent hornbills and other bird species flying around the karst. Trekking down to the camp and refresh your body by swimming in the clearwater lake. Next, trekking back to the Nyadeng jetty to catch our boat crossing down the river into Merabu Village. Afterwards, say goodbye with the villagers and then driving to Berau for check in to a hotel. Day 21 BERAU – MARATUA ISLAND

Breakfast at the hotel and then transfer to the port to catch the regular public fast-boat to reach Maratua Island for check in to Pratasaba Resort. Free at your own leisure. (B)

Day 22 MARATUA ISLAND – KAKABAN ISLAND – SANGALAKI – MARATUA ISLAND

Breakfast at the resort and then proceed to Kakaban island by boat for snorkeling and exploring the wondrous sea garden with 4 different species of jelly fish that can be found by thousands. Next, proceed to Sangalaki for snorkeling on the site which is called as the Capital of The Mantas Rays, including kinds of exotic fish, such as; Napoleons, purple sea horses, tunitates, dwarf scorpion fishes, and not to forget the coral sea garden which is fascinating. Afterwards, return to the resort for overnight. Lunch box provided. (B,L)

Day 23 MARATUA ISLAND FULL DAY RELAXING

Breakfast at the resort and free at your own leisure. You can manage your own leisure by yourselves such as; sunbathing, snorkeling around the resort, or exploring the villagers’ daily life. (B)

Day 24 MARATUA ISAND – BERAU – DEPARTURE

Breakfast at the resort and then taking the regular public fast-boat to Berau. Afterwards, transfer to Berau airport to catch your late afternoon flight to the next destination. (B)
