Borneo or Kalimantan is a land to explore. The island is covered by lush tropical rainforests and mountains, resulting in much of the terrain being virtually impassable and large areas still unexplored. If you wish to get the real wildlife tour, here’s the place. This island is the home of endemic and unusual wildlife such as orangutans and proboscis monkeys. The island is also called as an “island of rivers”. Rivers really play a very important role in communication and economy of the inhabitants. Most of civilizations are centered along rivers, such as; houses, activities, transportation, markets, etc. Exploring the river society is truly exciting, a civilization that certainly different with our normally lives on the land with the floating market of Banjarmasin which is known as the most unique market in the world as one of the fantastic river civilization sightseeing.

Day 01 ARRIVAL IN BANJARMASIN – RIAM KANAN LAKE – QUINAM FOREST

Arrive at Banjarmasin airport with morning flight and directly driving to Aranio port to get the boat crossing upward the Riam Kanan Lake to reach Belangian village while sighting beautiful mountainous scenery, floating fishing ponds, and boat making as well as species of bird fly over the lake. Afterwards, transfer by motorbike to Hutan Bakar to start the trekking into Quinam Forest crossing secondary and primary forest. During the trek, we will have opportunity to spot and hear wild animals such as gibbons, maroon leaf monkeys, pig tailed macaques, hornbills, insects, etc. In the late afternoon, we will set our jungle camp deep in the forest. In the peaceful evening, we can do a night walk to explore the wildlife such as sleeping bird, snake, insects, frog, civet, deer, etc. Return to the jungle camp for overnight. (L,D)

Day 02 QUINAM FOREST – KAHUNG VALLEY

Breakfast at the jungle camp and then trekking deeper the rainforest into Kahung Valley crossing gigantic dipterocarp trees while exploring nature and wildlife. In the afternoon, we will set our jungle camp at the riverside. In the rest time, our porter will teach us how to set the animal traps and hunting in the jungle. (B,L,D)

Day 03 KAHUNG VALLEY – RIAM KANAN LAKE – SUNGAI RUTAS – LOKSADO

After breakfast at the jungle camp, we will then trek down to Hapunit to explore the rainforest with gigantic trees. Next, proceed to the village to get the boat crossing downward the mountainous lake into the port to catch the car for driving across rainforest and mountainous landscape into Sungai Rutas village to get our boat crossing the romantic river to spot wildlife such as proboscis monkeys, long tailed macaque, silvery langurs, birds, monitor lizards, and other wild animals on the riverside as well as the daily activities of local people. Afterwards, continue driving to Loksado to stay overnight at the lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 04 LOKSADO – BAMBOO RAFTING – NAGARA – BANJARMASIN

After breakfast, we will have a short trekking to the Dayak land for exploring the rainforest, longhouse, and the waterfall nearby the village. We will then get the adventure trip of bamboo rafting across beautiful landscape of tropical rainforest along the Amandit riverside. Next, drive to Nagara village to get our boat crossing the river to Nagara lake for observing water buffaloes swim to the stall and villagers’ unique activities, as well as the romantic sunset outlook. Afterwards, proceed to Banjarmasin to stay overnight at the hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 05 FLOATING MARKET – SAMPIT

Early in the morning, we will leave to the floating market to explore the unique culture of Banjarese that trade commodities from boat to boat, then return to the hotel crossing Banjarmasin River while sightseeing people activities at the riverside. Breakfast at the hotel and then driving across beautiful peat swamp forest landscape into Sampit. We can make some stops at the interesting spots we meet enroute. Arrive at Sampit and directly check in to the hotel. Lunch and dinner will be served at the local restaurants. (B,L,D)

Day 06 SAMPIT – KUMAI VILLAGE – TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK

Breakfast at the hotel and then driving to Kumai Village to board the houseboat into Tanjung Puting National Park. The houseboat is a traditional wooden river boat with the roof that forms the upper deck where you can view the rainforest as it glides by. The boat crew including the boatman, cook and expert guide. In the afternoon, we will slowly cruise the romantic river to explore the flora and fauna along the riverside. In the peaceful evening, we can do a night walk to explore the nocturnal animals, such as; tarantula, sleeping birds, frogs, mousedeers, insects, etc. Staying overnight at the houseboat or Rimba Lodge with dining at the boat, with facilities; mattress, pillow, fine meals, mineral water, mosquito net, kitchen, and simple toilet available at the boat besides the familiar helpful guides and boatmen. Day 07 TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, we will cruise upward the river into Pondok Tanguy to explore the rehabilitation center of the new ex-captive orangutans. Next, return to the houseboat for cruising up the creek into Camp Leakey where the older orangutans are reintroduced into the rainforest. At this station, we will explore the story of the first orangutan project in the world, we will then trek to the feeding station to see the rehabilitated orangutans are given additional food. Afterwards, cruising down the river while exploring nature and wildlife at the riverside. Lunch and dinner will be served at the houseboat. Staying overnight at Rimba Lodge or in the houseboat. Day 08 TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK – KUMAI VILLAGE – DEPARTURE

After breakfast, we will get the morning safari to explore nature and wildlife at the riverside. Afterwards, proceed to Kumai Village to catch the car for driving to the airport for your onward flight to the next destination. (B)
