Orangutan Pongo Pygmaeus Wurmbii The Central Borneo Orangutans (Pongo Pygmaeus Wurmbii) are found in South-west Kalimantan, south of the Kapuas River, Sebangau River, Katingan River, and area of the Barito River including the small part of South Kalimantan Province. The central subspecies is the most common of the Borneo sub-species, it is around 38,000 individuals with an extensive, yet increasingly fragmented distribution in the swamp and lowland dipterocarp forests of central Kalimantan. Sizeable populations of the Pongo Pygmaeus Wurmbii Orangutans are found in Tanjung Puting National Park, Sebangau National Park, and Barito areas of central and South Kalimantan, Gunung Palung National Park of West Kalimantan and the forests that stretch along the border between the two provinces of West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.

Day 01 ARRIVAL IN PALANGKA RAYA – SEBANGAU NATIONAL PARK

Arrive at Palangka Raya airport with morning flight and directly driving across beautiful landscape of peat swamp forest into Kereng Pakahi Port to cross the Katingan River while exploring wildlife such as proboscis monkey, kingfishers, hornbills, maccaques, etc. Afterwards, proceed to Sebangau National Park through Punggu Alas creek for check in to homestay. In a dry condition of the creek, we have to trek about 1,5 hours to reach the homestay in Sebangau National Park. In the peaceful evening, we can explore the nocturnal animals around the camp. (L,D)

Day 02 SEBANGAU NATIONAL PARK – PALANGKA RAYA

After breakfast on the creekside, we will do trekking with ranger into the jungle to explore flora and fauna such as orangutans, monkeys, birds, endemic vegetation, etc. Return to the camp for having lunch and take a rest. In the afternoon, we will check out the homestay and proceed back to Palangka Raya for check in to local hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 03 PALANGKA RAYA – ORANGUTAN ISLAND – BUNTOK

After breakfast, we will proceed to the jetty for catching our motorized canoe to reach the Orangutan Island while sightseeing the romantic river and rainforest around, just keep an eye out for monkeys and birds. The Orangutan Island is managed by Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) for orangutan rehabilitation before releasing to the wild. Afterwards, driving accross beautiful landscape of peat swamp forest to reach Buntok town for staying overnight at local hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 04 BUNTOK – BLACK ORCHID – LOKSADO

After breakfast, we will proceed to Sanggu village to explore the rare black orchid, pitcher plants, and other vegetation. Next, proceed to Sungai Patai village crossing fascinating swamp and lowland landscape. Arrive at the village and crossing the romantic river to spot wildlife such as proboscis monkey, long tailed macaque, silvery langur, bird, monitor lizard, and other wild animals. Afterwards, driving to Loksado for staying overnight at the lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 05 JUNGLE TREK

After breakfast at lodge, we will proceed to explore jungle and Dayak land crossing primary and secondary rainforest, hills, waterfall, hanging and suspended bamboo bridges, villager farmlands, rivers and cascades, longhouses, cinnamon and rubber trees. In the afternoon, we will back to the lodge through other trail with different beauties of nature. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 06 BAMBOO RAFTING – BANJARMASIN

After breakfast, we will take an adventure trip of bamboo rafting across beautiful landscape of tropical rainforest along the Amandit riverside meanwhile our coach will be waiting on the downstream for transferring to Banjarmasin for overnight at hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 07 FLOATING MARKET – DEPARTURE

Early in the morning, we will leave to floating market for exploring the unique culture of Banjarese that trade commodities from boat to boat, then return to hotel crossing Banjarmasin River while sightseeing people activities at riverside. Breakfast at hotel and free at your own leisure till the proper time for transferring to airport for your flight to next destination. (B)
