The Central Borneo Orangutans (Pongo Pygmaeus Wurmbii) are found in South-west Kalimantan, south of the Kapuas River, Sebangau River, Katingan River, and area of the Barito River including the small part of South Kalimantan Province. The central subspecies is the most common of the Borneo sub-species, it is around 38,000 individuals with an extensive, yet increasingly fragmented distribution in the swamp and lowland dipterocarp forests of central Kalimantan. Sizeable populations of the Pongo Pygmaeus Wurmbii Orangutans are found in Tanjung Puting National Park, Sebangau National Park, and Barito areas of central and South Kalimantan, Gunung Palung National Park of West Kalimantan and the forests that stretch along the border between the two provinces of West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.

Day 01 ARRIVAL IN PALANGKA RAYA – ORANGUTAN ISLAND – SEBANGAU NATIONAL PARK

Arrive at Palangka Raya airport with morning flight and directly driving the jetty to catch our motorized canoe to approach the Orangutan Island while sightseeing the romantic river and rainforest around, just keep an eye out for monkeys and birds. The Orangutan Island is managed by Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) for orangutan rehabilitation before releasing to the wild. We will then across beautiful landscape of peat swamp forest into Kereng Pakahi Port to cross the Katingan River while sightseeing wildlife such as proboscis monkeys, kingfishers, hornbills, long tailed macaques, etc. Afterwards, proceed to Sabangau National Park through Punggu Alas creek for check in to homestay. In the peaceful evening, we can do a night boating safari to explore the nocturnal animals at the riverside. (L,D)

Day 02 SABANGAU NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast at the creekside, we will trek to the jungle to explore flora and fauna such as orangutans, monkeys, birds, endemic vegetation, etc. Return to the camp for having lunch and take a rest. You can get relax by swimming at the creek in front of the homestay. In the peaceful afternoon, we will cross the river by motorized canoe to explore nature and wildlife of the riverside. Return to the homestay to stay overnight. (B,L,D)

Day 03 SABANGAU NATIONAL PARK – KERENG PAKAHI – PALANGKA RAYA

After breakfast at the creekside, we can do another trek to explore nature and wildlife such as orangutans, monkeys, birds, etc. Return to the camp for having lunch and take a rest. In the afternoon, we will check out the homestay and then proceed to Kereng Pakahi to catch our car for driving to Palangka Raya for check in to the hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 04 PALANGKA RAYA – BARITO RIVER – BUNTOK

After breakfast, we will drive across beautiful landscape of peat swamp forest to reach Kalahien Village to get the boat crossing the romantic black river and the great Barito river to explore nature, culture, and wildlife at the riverside. Afterwards, proceed to Buntok town to stay overnight at the local hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 05 BUNTOK – BLACK ORCHID – NAGARA LAKE – LOKSADO

After breakfast, we will proceed to Sanggu Village to explore the rare black orchid, pitcher plants, and other vegetation. We will continue driving to Nagara village to get our boat crossing the river into the lake to observe water buffaloes swim to the stall and villagers’ unique activities, as well as the romantic sunset outlook. Afterwards, driving to Loksado for staying overnight at the lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 06 BAMBOO RAFTING – TANUHI HOTSPRING – SUNGAI RUTAS – BANJARMASIN

After breakfast, we will have a short trekking into the Dayak land for exploring the rainforest, longhouse, and the waterfall nearby the village. We will then taking the adventure trip of bamboo rafting across beautiful landscape of tropical rainforest along the Amandit riverside. Next, proceed to Tanuhi Village to get relaxing at the pool of natural hotspring. We will then driving to Sungai Rutas village to get our boat crossing the romantic river to spot wildlife such as proboscis monkeys, long tailed macaque, silvery langurs, birds, monitor lizards, and other wild animals on the riverside as well as the daily activities of local people. Afterwards, proceed to Banjarmasin for staying overnight at the hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 07 FLOATING MARKET – DEPARTURE

Early in the morning, we will leave to the floating market for exploring the unique culture of Banjarese that trade commodities from boat to boat, then return to hotel crossing Banjarmasin River while sightseeing people activities at riverside. Breakfast at hotel and free at your own leisure till the proper time for transferring to Banjarmasin airport to catch your onward flight to the next destination. (B)
