orangutan distribution mapping, explore orangutan borneo The Bornean orangutans live in the tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests in the Borneo lowlands, as well as mountainous areas up to 1,500 metres (4,900 ft) above sea level. This magnificent species living throughout the canopy of primary and secondary forests, and moving in large distances to find trees bearing fruit. Formerly, researchers announced that orangutans can only be found in the two Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, and the Indonesian provinces of Kalimantan except the South Kalimantan province. But in early October 2014, some researchers from domestic and foreign countries conducted a research journey and proved that perception was wrong after they had concluded about 50 individuals of orangutan were separated on several groups in the forest which is exactly located in the South Kalimantan province.

Day 01 ARRIVAL IN PALANGKA RAYA – SUNGAI GOHONG VILLAGE

Arrive at Palangka Raya airport with morning flight and directly transfer to Kerang Bangkirai Port to get the boat crossing the fascinating black river through lush pandanus trees to reach Sungai Koran Station of Sebangau National Park. We will then explore the jungle with hope to spot wildlife such as orangutans, gibbons, monkeys, snakes, etc. Return to Kereng Bangkirai Port and then driving to Sungai Gohong Village for check in to the local hotel. Day 02 SUNGAI GOHONG VILLAGE – ORANGUTAN ISLAND – BUNTOK

After breakfast, we will proceed to the jetty for catching our motorized canoe to approach the Orangutan Island while sightseeing the beautiful natural black river and rainforest around, just keep an eye out for monkeys and birds. Afterwards, we will proceed to Buntok town for about 4 hours driving across pristine lowland forest and peat swamp landscape. Lunch and dinner will be served enroute and staying overnight at local hotel in Buntok town. (B,L,D)

Day 03 BUNTOK – BLACK ORCHID – PULANTANI – HAUR GADING FOREST

After breakfast, we will proceed to Sanggu village to explore the rare black orchid, pitcher plants, and other vegetation. Next, driving to Pulantani village to catch the motorized boat crossing the river into Haur Gading forest to set our campsite at the riverside. Lunch will be served enroute, dinner and stay overnight at the jungle camp.  (B,L,D)

Day 04 HAUR GADING FOREST

After breakfast, we will trek deeper into the forest to spot wild orangutans and other wild animals. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and stay overnight at the campsite. (B,L,D)

Day 05 HAUR GADING FOREST – PULANTANI – LOKSADO

After breakfast, we will trek in other trails to with hope to spot the wild orangutan and other wildlife. Next, crossing the Haur Gading River while exploring the monkeys, birds, and other wildlife at the riverside. Afterwards, driving to Loksado Plateau to stay overnight at the lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 06 BAMBOO RAFTING – TANUHI HOTSPRING – SUNGAI RUTAS – BANJARMASIN

After breakfast, we will have a short trekking to Dayak land for exploring the rainforest, longhouse, and the waterfall nearby the village. We will then taking the adventure trip of bamboo rafting across beautiful landscape of tropical rainforest along the Amandit riverside. Next, proceed to Tanuhi Village to get relaxing at the pool of natural hotspring. We will then driving to Sungai Rutas village to get our boat crossing the romantic river to spot wildlife such as proboscis monkeys, long tailed macaque, silvery langurs, birds, monitor lizards, and other wild animals on the riverside as well as the daily activities of local people. Afterwards, proceed to Banjarmasin to stay overnight at the hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 07 FLOATING MARKET – DEPARTURE

Early in the morning, we will leave to the floating market for exploring the unique culture of Banjarese that trade commodities from boat to boat, then return to hotel crossing Banjarmasin River while sightseeing people activities at riverside, free at your own leisure till the proper time for transferring to Banjarmasin airport for your onward flight to the next destination.
