Wehea Forest is an important site for orangutan conservation. The population of orangutans in Wehea Forest is estimated to be around 750 individuals. The commitment of Wehea people to protecting orangutan habitat has even inspired surrounding companies. In April 2015, 5 private companies (1 palm oil, 1 forest plantation, and 3 logging concessions), district and provincial governments, The Nature Conservancy, and the Customary Council of Wehea signed a Memorandum of Understanding to protect over 650,000 acres of orangutan habitat. This is the first public private-community partnership in Indonesia to protect a large area of orangutan habitat. Through this initiative, the companies will also receive technical support from The Nature Conservancy to improve their sustainable natural resource management practices.

Day 01 ARRIVAL IN SAMARINDA – KABO VILLAGE – KUTAI NATIONAL PARK
Arrive at Samarinda airport with morning flight and directly driving across villages, rainforest, and mountainous landscape to reach Kabo village for crossing up the river to Prevab camp of Kutai National Park and then trekking to the jungle to spot wild orangutans, monkeys, birds, insects, etc. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and staying overnight at the jungle guesthouse. Day 02 KUTAI NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast, we will be trekking in different path of the jungle to spot more wild orangutans and other wildlife. Return to the camp for lunch and take a rest. In the afternoon, we will trek again but in the different trails to observe the magnificent flora and fauna of the national park. In the peaceful evening, we will have a night trekking for observing nocturnal animals such as tarantula, insects, birds, and others. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and staying overnight at the jungle guesthouse. (B,L,D)
Day 03 KUTAI NATIONAL PARK – DELTA SANGATTA – WEHEA PROTECTION FOREST
Breakfast at the jungle guesthouse and then crossing downward the river into Delta Sangatta to spot estuarine crocodile, proboscis monkeys, silvery langurs, monitor lizards, and other wild animals that hang around the riverside. Afterwards, we will proceed to Nehas Liah Bing Village to change our car into the jeep for our driving to Wehea Protected Forest. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and staying overnight at the jungle lodge. (B,L,D)
Day 04 WEHEA PROTECTION FOREST TREKKING
Breakfast at the lodge and then trekking into the jungle with hope to spot the wildlife such as orangutans, maroon leaf langurs, hose’s langurs, white fronted langurs, gibbons, and various vegetation of the forest. Return to the lodge for having lunch and take a rest. In the afternoon, we will trek again in the other part of jungle to explore the flora and the fauna of the forest. In the evening, we can do the night trekking to explore the nocturnal animals of the rainforest. Return to the lodge for staying overnight. (B,L,D)
Day 05 WEHEA PROTECTION FOREST – BERAU
Breakfast at the lodge and then proceed to Muara Wahau to catch our car for driving to Berau crossing rainforest and mountainous landscape. Lunch and dinner will be served at local restaurants, staying overnight at the hotel in Berau. (B,L,D)
Day 06 DEPARTURE
Breakfast at hotel and free at your own leisure till the proper time for transferring to the airport for your flight to the next destination. (B)
