Dayak is the indigenous people of Borneo by the Indonesian part which is known as Kalimantan. They are classified into 450 ethno-linguistic groups approximately. Despite some differences, these group share customs, physical features, architecture, language, social structure, weapons, agricultural technology and similar outlook in life. In the past, anthropologists described that the Dayak as the “legendary natives of Borneo” who live in longhouse and engaged in head-hunting, today their traditional swords “mandau” are no longer used to collect grisly trophies. Nevertheless, the Dayak is still continuing to maintain their traditional way of life and culture as the proud of their identity.
Day 01 ARRIVAL IN BALIKPAPAN – LOA JANAN – MUARA MUNTAI
Meet at airport and directly transfer to Loa Janan for boarding the houseboat to start the exciting adventure of Mahakam River. Lunch, dinner and overnight at houseboat. (L,D)
Day 02 MUARA MUNTAI – MANCONG – MUARA PAHU
Arrive at Muara Muntai and sightseeing villagers daily activities from the long wooden bridge which is made of iron wood. Next, proceed to Mancong by motorized canoe crossing the Jempang Lake of which we will have the opportunity to view plenty of water bird species and fishermen floating houses as well as the romantic Ohong River where proboscis monkeys, monitor lizards and other wild animals are hanging around at riverside. In Mancong, we will explore an exotic longhouse and Benuaq Dayak daily life and watching colorful dress dancers that welcome you with an impressive attraction in front of their longhouse. Afterwards, return to houseboat for cruising upward to Muara Pahu. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at houseboat. (B,L,D)
Day 03 MUARA PAHU – BELOAN RIVER – MELAK
After breakfast, we proceed to Kedang Pahu River with hope to spot the fresh water dolphin. Next, cruising up the Beloan River to explore wildlife and the daily life of local people who live on the stilt and floating houses. Afterwards, return to houseboat for cruising upward the Mahakam River into Melak. Lunch, dinner, and overnight at houseboat. (B,L,D)
Day 04 MELAK – KERSIK LUWEY – EHENG – WATERFALL – MAHAKAM RIVER
After breakfast at houseboat, we will proceed to Kersik Luwey reserve to see the rare black orchid and other flora on the zone. Next, driving to Eheng village to explore an old and impressive longhouse with its unique ornament and shape while observing the Dayak daily life. We will then continue driving to Jantur Inar to explore the rainforest with its beautiful waterfall. Afterwards, return to the houseboat for cruising downward the Mahakam River into Tenggarong. Lunch, dinner, and staying overnight at houseboat. (B,L,D)
Day 05 TENGGARONG – BALIKPAPAN
After breakfast at houseboat, we will then walking to Museum of Mulawarman to explore the King Collection and Royal Cemetery of Kutai Kartanegara Kingdom. Afterwards, cruising downward the Mahakam River into Loa Janan and directly driving for about 2,5 hours to Balikpapan for overnight on hotel. Free at your own leisure. (B,L)
Day 06 DEPARTURE
Breakfast at hotel and free at your own leisure till the proper time for transferring to airport for your flight to next destination. (B)
