Borneo tropical rainforest has some of the richest biodiversity on the globe. It has nearly 11,000 species of flowering plants, about a third of these are indigenous. In one 6.5 hectare area of Borneo’s lowland tropical rainforest has over 700 species of trees which have been recorded. Borneo’s rainforests are home to thousands of endemic species of animal, reptile, and insect. These include rhinos, hornbills, macaques, orangutans, proboscis monkeys, gibbons, tarsiers, and slow lorises. This island also has some of the world’s strangest creatures, like flying lizards and frogs, even new creatures are still being discovered. Trekking to Borneo jungle will lead you to encounter the real wildlife and diverse of vegetation that sustain the ecological harmony for all creatures on it.

Day 01 ARRIVAL IN BANJARMASIN – MERATUS MOUNTAIN

Arrive in Banjarmasin airport with morning or noon flight and directly driving to the Loksado in the foot of Meratus Mountain to start our jungle trekking. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at the camp on riverside.

Day 02 JUNGLE TREKKING

After breakfast, we will pack our stuff and then trekking deeper into the jungle crossing, hills, rivers, and cascades. In the afternoon, we will trek down to Haratai forest to set our campsite near the river. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at the jungle camp. (B,L,D)

Day 03 HARATAI – BAMBOO RAFTING – SUNGAI RUTAS – BANJARMASIN

After breakfast, we will trek down to Loksado crossing rainforest, hills, hanging and suspended bamboo bridges, villager farmlands, rivers and cascades, longhouses, cinnamon and rubber trees. We will then getting the adventure trip of bamboo rafting across beautiful landscape of tropical rainforest along the riverside meanwhile our coach will be waiting on the downstream for driving to Sungai Rutas village to get our boat crossing the romantic river to spot wildlife such as proboscis monkeys, long tailed macaque, silvery langurs, birds, monitor lizards, and other wild animals on the riverside as well as the daily activities of local people. Afterwards, proceed to Banjarmasin for staying overnight at hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 04 FLOATING MARKET – SAMPIT

Early in the morning, we will leave to the floating market to explore the unique culture of Banjarese that trade commodities from boat to boat, then return to the hotel crossing Banjarmasin River while sightseeing people activities at the riverside. Breakfast at the hotel and then driving across beautiful peat swamp forest landscape into Sampit. We can make some stops at the interesting spots we meet enroute. Arrive at Sampit and directly check  in to the hotel. Lunch and dinner will be served at the local restaurants. (B,L,D)

Day 05 SAMPIT – KUMAI VILLAGE – TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK

Breakfast at the hotel and then driving to Kumai Village to board the houseboat into Tanjung Puting National Park. The houseboat is a traditional wooden river boat with the roof that forms the upper deck where you can view the rainforest as it glides by. The boat crew including the boatman, cook and expert guide. In the afternoon, we will slowly cruise the romantic river to explore the flora and fauna along the riverside. In the peaceful evening, we can do a night walk to explore the nocturnal animals, such as; tarantula, sleeping birds, frogs, mousedeers, insects, etc. Staying overnight at the houseboat or Rimba Lodge with dining at the boat, with facilities; mattress, pillow, fine meals, mineral water, mosquito net, kitchen, and simple toilet available at the boat besides the familiar helpful guides and boatmen. Day 06 TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, we will cruise upward the river into Pondok Tanguy to explore the rehabilitation center of the new ex-captive orangutans. Next, return to the houseboat for cruising up the creek into Camp Leakey where the older orangutans are reintroduced into the rainforest. At this station, we will explore the story of the first orangutan project in the world, we will then trek to the feeding station to see the rehabilitated orangutans are given additional food. Afterwards, cruising down the river while exploring nature and wildlife at the riverside. Lunch and dinner will be served at the houseboat. Staying overnight at Rimba Lodge or in the houseboat. Day 07 TANJUNG PUTING NATIONAL PARK – KUMAI VILLAGE – DEPARTURE

After breakfast, we will get the morning safari to explore nature and wildlife at the riverside. Afterwards, proceed to Kumai Village to catch the car for driving to Pangkalan Bun airport for your onward flight to the next destination. (B)
